APPROACH TO COACHING

As my children grew older I got the itch to pursue a more permanent career.  It was a natural progression to work with others in personal and professional development.  I narrowed my choices down to two areas, Psychology and Coaching, both of which I have a great deal of respect.  I decided that coaching was the better fit for me in that I connect with the idea of looking forward in life instead of looking back.  Working with people to plan their tomorrows instead of fixing their yesterdays was where I wanted to be.  It’s my ‘happy place.’  I received my coaching training and certification from Coach University, www.coachu.com  which is the oldest professional coaching school.  It was a challenge and a joy to go back to school when my children were in school as well. I am a member of the top coaching organization in the industry, The International Coach Federation,www.coachfederation.org as well as the Kentucky Coaches Alliance.

Working with individuals who are making their personal development a priority in order to better be of service to the world is a gift. My focus and passion is coaching people toward being their best selves and challenging them to stretch beyond their comfort zones.  It is a beautiful site to see when clients reach the place where they connect from within to find clarity, peace and a sense of adventure for life and a life well balanced at that.

CAREER

The most recent career adventure is my husband and I purchasing an office building of which I will manage the space as well as the six professional office suites rented. This will be a great addition to my coaching work.

I have been blessed with two daughters and one son, as well as a wonderful husband. Being a mother and wife has brought deep love, joy, and contentment to my life.

I have trained and facilitated in various programs and workshops in areas of child development, education and discipline. These programs and workshops include:

  • Co-creator, Director, and instructor of “Creative Minds” Art Program, elementary through middles school ages
  • Creator and instructor of a pre-school curriculum for The Lexington Children’s Museum
  • Course developer and facilitator of parenting workshops in the areas, of nutrition, discipline, and attachment parenting, extension group of LLL, Inc.
  • Courses for children in various topics such as: communication skills, writing, poetry, early childhood science, ecology and art at the Lexington Children’s Museum
  •  Breastfeeding counselor for La Leche League International.
  • Facilitator and instructor of ‘Project Wild,’ an ecology program for a national outreach program created by the Department for Fish and Wildlife.
  • Another ongoing adventure has been to own and maintain a real-estate property. I’ve tried my hand at everything from plumbing issues to hanging doors. When I complete a project, I enjoy the gratification of self-sufficiency.

HOBBIES

To nurture my creative growth, I’ve enjoyed many adventures. I’ve enjoyed tai chi, yoga, drawing, painting, stained glass, photography, basket weaving, cooking courses, nutrition, and most recently ballroom dancing. I am a member of “Tiramisu” book club of which I founded in 2002. (We named our book club after a favorite dessert at a local book store café.).  I’ve also enjoyed traveling with my hubby and children.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

To give back to the community I am  CASA in Lexington KY (Court Appointed Special Advocates). This organization trains advocates to represent abused and neglected children that are in the (court) system. The CASA’s are a support for each of these children until they reach safe and permanent homes. I also served as a board member for eight years with this organization. This is a very worthwhile cause that is dear to my heart.www.lexingtoncasa.com

I am the volunteer coordinator for our Art at the Cathedral committee at Christ Church Cathedral. The art exhibit is displayed every two months before being rotated out. There is a bi-monthly Gallery Hop of which we host an exhibit along with other galleries that is open to the public.

I have also participated in an all women Habit for Humanity home build. These women are amazing! I learned a great deal about building which helps me with my rental property. There’s ALWAYS a “takeaway”. www.habitat.org

The Montessori school where my children received their education has been a place for learning for me as well. I’ve participated in everything from being a girl scout leader, making cold frames, gardening, ecology projects to making costumes, tutoring reading, and fundraising, the list goes.  www.cmsmontessori.org
